Portable Scooters
are a travel scooter designed to be easily disassembled and reassembled so that it can be loaded into a vehicle luggage carrier. The lightest of these scooters has a total weight of around one hundred pounds and the heaviest disassembled part weighing around 28 pounds. Portable scooters come in both 3 wheel and 4 wheel models with varying advantages for each type.
Foldable Scooters
like the Portable Scooter are designed for travel but are folded for easy storage. These can also be disassembled and reassembled, but usually into fewer pieces than the Portable Scooters but the heaviest part may weigh more than a comparable portable model.
3 Wheel Scooters
are more of a mid-sized scooter designed with more comfort and larger electric batteries for a longer range per battery charge. 3 wheel scooters have a tighter turning radius than 4 wheel models but may be less stable in certain conditions. These units typically break down into smaller pieces but usually not as quickly or as light as the travel scooters. These 3 wheel scooters can be loaded into vehicles using portable ramps or wheelchair ramps or by using an inside or outside electric scooter lift.
4 Wheel Scooters
are more of a mid-sized scooter designed with more comfort and larger electric batteries for a longer range per battery charge. 4 wheel scooters have a wider turning radius than 3 wheel models but are more stable, especially when travelling outdoors. These units may break down into smaller pieces but will not be as light as the travel scooters. Heavy Duty Scooters
are mobility scooters designed for carrying 400 to 500 pounds. They come in both 3 wheel and 4 wheel models and usually have a higher ground clearance, pneumatic tires and suspension. These scooters can usually only be carried by larger vehicles using mobile carriers such as an outside electric scooter lift.
