Customer Reviews

I can see why this has beeen discontinued
Review by GMFlynn
I generally don’t write reviews, however this I must write. I can see why this power chair has been discontinued. I have owned this model, the Medalist 450, now for 3 months. Out of this I have been unable to use it for at least a third of this time. At first it would not charge, so Drive did overnight a new charger. Then about 1 month of light use, mostly in the garage learning to drive. I began taking it to the grocery store and shopping. The joystick is very herky jerky, meaning that with little input the chair will abruptly change direction, even at the lowest speed setting. So after a month the unit shut down and gave an error code that it required a certified technician to replace the “user interface, Display PCB fault consult a Service agent”. I contacted Scooters Direct, Russell (the only bright spot out of my ownership) who took down the information and contacted Drive. They contact a local company who has 24 to 48 hours to respond. So now I am stranded waiting to hear when they can schedule a technician to evaluate and then order parts to repair. Again waiting for the parts to arrive and then schedule the technician to return and install. The part ordered did not fix the problem, so another part ordered, the joystick controller, and again wait for the part and the technician. That seemed to correct the problem. Now over the 4th of July weekend out shopping the chair goes from a full charge indication to 2 flashing red LEDs, which pretty much means you better get the plugged in immediately. So got the chair back home and plugged in to charge, a couple of hours was all it took. I had a medical appointment two days later and after removing it from the transporter it didn’t get 30 feet before it again goes from a full charge to the blinking red lights. Late for my appointment. Contacted Drive and again wait 24-48 hours for local company to schedule a technician (so contacted Drive Tuesday, local company calls me Thursday and tells me they can’t get to it till the next Monday) so again I’m stranded without.
So now you can see why I needed to write this review. I hope you see the main idea I wanted to get across. The quality of the Medalist 450 from Drive is lacking. The sense of urgency is lacking. If this power chair wasn’t being discontinued I would HIGHLY recommend you look elsewhere for another chair and company to deal with.
